A Few Big Lies

2020 election.

Donald Trump declared the U.S. election a fraud - a big lie - that was echoed by his political allies and right-wing media. This was an attack on American democracy and the peaceful transfer of power.

Sidney Powell, Trump’s lawyer at the time, now says no reasonable person should have believed her.

Voting Rights.

Republicans are using the big lie of mass voter fraud to enact sweeping voter suppression, the likes of which we haven’t seen since the post-civil war Jim Crow laws.

At least 45 states have seen bills aimed at voter suppression.

Climate Crisis.

“Human activities are at the root of our descent towards chaos. But that means human action can help solve it."

Healthcare.

Healthcare for All is not socialism (whatever that means). What we have now is private for-profit health insurance that socializes risk.

Abortion.

Abortion rates go down when countries make it legal.

Evidence shows abortion rates are higher in countries where there is limited access to contraception.

Abortion rates are lower where people, including adolescents, have information about and can access modern contraceptive methods and where comprehensive sex education is available and there is access to safe and legal abortion on broad grounds.

Racism.

Systemic racism and tribal supremacy are an anti-science, anti-government charade pushing humanity towards extinction.

Kids deserve to know our real American History so as adults we’re equipped to handle reality.

Immigration.

This United States is a nation of immigrants. The only “real Americans” are native Americans.

Despite the hysteria, immigration doesn’t threaten employment for white people. Immigrants create jobs.

Crime rates among so-called “undocumented” immigrants are just a fraction of those of their U.S.-born neighbors.

Fear of immigrants is as old as racism itself.

Guns.

They’re more dangerous to their owners and families than anyone else.

Over 60% of people who die from guns in the USA, die by suicide. When they’re kept in a home, they make self-harm easy and deadly.

The presence of a gun in a domestic violence situation increases the risk of homicide by 500 percent — for the abused, not the abuser.

Over 100 children were killed in unintentional shootings in one year after the 2012 Sandy Hook elementary school massacre. 84 percent of these preventable shootings happened in a home or vehicle owned by the victim’s family.

The 2nd amendment has nothing to do with individual gun rights, despite decades of fear-mongering propaganda from the NRA. Guns were regulated since the founding of the nation.

Covid-19.

It’s not a hoax. It takes enormous effort to convince people that masks don’t work or are a form of oppression. They work.

The flat-earth President Donald Trump on Covid-19: “I take full responsibility. It’s not my fault.” First there was the botched public health response, then the failure to help workers retain jobs and help small businesses, then the years of slashing safety nets.

From denial, to lying, to deliberate recklessness to hurt “blue states”, the failure to provide a national response to covid-19 resulted in the most catastrophic public health crisis in modern history and politicized a national emergency.

Dr. Deborah Birx, who coordinated the coronavirus task force under former US President Trump, said that deaths could have been avoided if the administration had responded more effectively.
